Shasta College Selects New District Superintendent/President

The Board of Trustees would like to announce their selection of Dr. Frank Nigro as the new District Superintendent/President of the Shasta-Tehama-Trinity Joint Community College District. Dr. Nigro’s start date will be July 1st 2024.

Dr. Frank Nigro has had the honor of serving the Shasta College community for 27 years. He received his bachelor’s degree in English at California State University, Chico, and his doctorate from Vanderbilt University, after which he became a full-time English instructor at Shasta College.

During his 15 years of teaching, he became heavily involved in participatory governance and a variety of administrative projects. He established the Distance Education Committee and served on the Academic Senate for 10 years, including as Senate President. He also served as Faculty Coordinator for the English Department Shasta College’s Academic Senate selected him as Excellent Educator in 2006, and in 2007, he was named by the Community College League of California as the district’s first recipient of the Hayward Award for Excellence in Education.

In 2012, Dr. Nigro shifted to administration, becoming dean of Science, Language Arts, and Mathematics. His current position as Vice President of Instruction at Shasta College began in June 2017. Dr. Nigro also remains active on the state level, serving on a number of accreditation and Partnership Resource Teams to other districts. He serves on the Executive Board of the California Community College Chief Instructional Officers organization and on the Chancellor’s Office Common Course Numbering Council.

Deeply committed to the district and region, he grew up in Northern California in the city of Paradise and is raising his family in Redding. Dr. Nigro is enthusiastic about the possibility to serve as Shasta College’s next president and to further the district’s transformative efforts to meet the needs of its students and community.
