Quality of Life: the standard of health, comfort, and happiness experienced by an individual or group.
When reflecting on our life in southern California and comparing it to the life in Redding, I can honestly say that the quality of life is much better here. It is a slower pace of life, NO traffic (well when comparing to Los Angeles traffic), with the exception of fender benders and your typical vehicle accidents that will clog any street, freeway, or highway, Redding has become our new home.
With surrounding lakes, mountains, waterfalls, biking & mounting biking trails, copious amounts of hiking trails, fishing galore, and a ski resort so close by, there is so much to do as a family or with friends throughout the seasons. One my family's favorite outdoor adventure is hiking around the Mt. Lassen trails. An easy walk around Manzanita Lake and a picnic there, is always very relaxing and soothing. Watching my boys play in the shallow creeks, that are created by the melting snow on top of Mt. Lassen, is such a pleasure during the summers. Creating those memories and experiences, knowing that it is a short drive away, feels amazing and NOT stressful. Especially knowing that if I were to do something like this in Southern CA, I would have to be driving in traffic for probably about two hours, when it should only take me 60 minutes! Then getting there to find out, you may have to park aways away or wait a few minutes to see if someone leaves. Which just adds to the amount of time everyone is in the vehicle, which shortens up the time you have at your destination.
The cost of living is lower here, when compared to any major city in CA. which you read about here: https://www.rentcafe.com/cost-of-living-calculator/us/ca/redding/. This has allowed our family to be able to enjoy life, be there for our kids, explore, and be Happy! If you are thinking about a change of scenery, want to move away from the hustle and bustle and hours spent in traffic in the big city, need some quiet time to live life, I highly recommend Redding, CA.
